Lunar New Year Day Special, home cooking tradition

DINNERS ---  Lunar New Year Day :  fermented sweet rice broth with sweet rice dumplings | Kao-fu stew pot | quail eggs | winter bamboo shoots with Chinese celery and red pepper | okra with cherry tomato | Chinese hot pot:  sliced lamb, napa cabbage, fried tofu puff, mountain yam noddles , wood-ear, needle mushroom || stir-fried garlic scape with smoked tofu | Sichuan pickled cabbage | Japanese style panfried pork chop | Korean style broiled beef short ribs | opera cake

DINNER --- ( a vegetarian Chinese New Year dinner for friends ) plum wine | fried dough twist with sea-moss seasoning | wild mountain walnuts | baked Japanese sweet potato fries || warm Sake | bitter melon and sweet lily bulbs ( with sauce of marinated mushroom and yuzu juice )| lotus root sandwich tempura | Xiao-long-bao ( Shanghai soup dumplings ) | Shanghai fried spring rolls ( with filling of napa cabbage, smoked tofu, shiitake, winter bamboo shoots, green onion ) | chilled Sake | Si-Chuan style vegetable hot pot ( ma-la tang 麻辣烫) with Chinese steamed rolls | Shanghai rice melange ( with bamboo shoots, green peas, and king mushroom ) || Shanghai sweet rice dumpling with fermented rice broth

  • the dinner started with a delicate bitter taste of bitter melon, went through a wild ride of spicy, hot, savory tastes, ended with soothing sweetness of sweet rice dumplings. wish the Rabbit year progress like this as well

AFTERNOON-TEATIME --- green tea
DINNER --- ( a Lunar New Year Dinner for family and friends ) sparkling wine | adamame | dried-moss-seasoned fried bread dough twist | baked Japanese sweet potato fries | lotus root sandwich tempura | grilled rice cake with dashi broth and grated daikon | Shanghai salsa ( smoked bean curd, cilantro, and roasted peanuts with chili sauce ) | Shanghai fried spring roll ( with fillings of threaded napa cabbage, shiitake, snow pea and smoked bean curd ) | wonton soup ( shrimp, mustard green, kumquat zest, needle mushroom, radish sprouts ) | sauteed butterfly-cut shrimp and snow peas, king mushroom confit, soba noodles with white miso and shiso dressing | Teriyaki eel and rice with pickled vegetables | white wine and red wine || sweet rice dumplings ( in fermented rice broth with Goji berry and kumquat zest )
