food in Chinese restaurants in China is no-doubt much better than those in the U.S., but is restaurant cooking after all. The materials are never as fresh as they could be in home cooking, and the choice of materials are never as wide as they could be in home cooking, particular in Shanghai where the produce comes in early morning to the market everyday.

the walls on both sides of the "six-feet Lane" were fake-looking replicas of that long-gone, only originals of the family compound remain today were the old kitchen court and stone washing basins. the bamboo woods and tea farms in Long-Mian hills stayed put.
