- Tomatilllos look like green tomatoes, but in fact they belong to gooseberry family. Salsa verde ( Mexican) is a mixture of roasted tomatillos, chilies serranos, garlic, white onion, and raw cilantro. The sauce is green in color and refreshing in taste.


- 4 tomatillo, husk removed
- 1/4 cup cilantro, chopped
- 1 white onion, chopped
- 1 hot green chili, seeds removed
- 1 clove garlic
- 1 tsp olive oil
- salt
- roast tomatillo in oven, till soft and a little burned on skin, about 30 minutes
- remove the skin and core from the cooled tomatillo, drain liquid
- put tomatillo in a food processor, add the rest of the ingredients, puree till smooth
- add the green sauce to just cooked long grain rice, mix and serve
