4-03-2010 Sat. warm, sunny

WEEKEND BREAKFAST --- coffee | coconut cream bread | scallion pancake | apple
AFTERNOON-TEATIME --- (at R. B. Brewery) beer
DINNER --- yellow chive and scrambled eggs | sauteed celtuce ( Chinese stem lettuce) with smoked tofu and pickled radish | roasted Yukon potatoes | boiled pea leaves and wood-ear fungi with ponzu sauce |

  • celtuce and yellow chive are unique vegetables from China, a real treat when we can have them both in one meal here.

Sauteed celtuce

  • two stems celtuce
  • 1 piece smoked tofu , thinly sliced
  • a handful wood-ear fungi, revived by cooking in hot water
  • 1 tbs dried Goji berry , revived by soaking in the water
  • 1 tbs radish pickles , chopped finely
  • 1 tbs finely chopped green onion
  • cooking oil
  • salt
  • 1 tsp mirin

  1. peel off the tough out layer of the celtuce, cut into slices
  2. heat the cooking oil in a pan over medium heat, add green onion, and smoked tofu, cook for a 1minute
  3. add celtuce and wood-ear, saute for a couple of minutes, add mirin and salt, cook another 2-3 minutes, celtuce should absorb flavor and remain crunchy
  4. add Goji berry and radish pickles, mix well, serve hot
